Firehalt Gold Spider Penetration System Fitting Instructions |
Step One Cover the penetration with a piece of fire barrier 600 mm long (300 mm either side of where the barrier will be finished). Staple in two rows offset at 100 mm centres around the penetration to a tight fit. (fig.1) |
Step Two
Wrap seal strip tightly around penetrations press firmly at the overlap to mark the strip. (fig. 2) Relax the strip to reveal the indented mark and cut one finger width larger than required. The extra finger can be straightened to assist in cutting (fig.4) |
Step Three
The extra finger should be snipped as a mitre cut (fig.5). to form a tongue as in (fig.6). The tongue provides an overlap and will assist when forming the seal. Fit the Firehalt Spider back around the penetration (fig.6), |
Step Four Wrap Firehalt Stainless Steel Band around the seal to determine the length required (fig. 7). Cut off Firehalt band to length. |
Step Five Fit band lock as in (fig. 8) Bend back the band to the underside of the lock to a minimum of 20 mm (fig. 9). Tighten the band with a screwdriver to a snug fit (fig. 10) |
Step Six Position along the penetration to line up with the barrier fixings, tighten sufficiently to hold the seal in position (fig. 11). When all the penetrations have been fitted with Firehalt® Spider Seals the Fire Barrier can be fixed. |

Marking out the fire barrier. (for further details see FireHalt Fire barrier Fitting Instructions) |
Step Seven
Measure from the edge of the barrier to the centre of the penetration and mark the barrier face. Mark 3 horizontal lines 50mm apart as (fig.15) to allow a 50mm pleat to be formed. Mark half the diameter of the penetration above and below the outside horizontal lines and join up the vertical lines as sketch. Cut along the horizontal centre line to the edges of the marked penetration with scissors and add the feather cuts as shown. Staple around the feathered edges and cut seam. |

| Before fitting the barrier, create the pleat and staple to secure. | ||
Step Eight
Offer the barrier into position loosely fix at the top only and work the barrier around the penetration. Staple the seam and press the fingers of the Firehalt Spider firmly against the barrier to secure as (fig. 17). Ensure a snug fit and that the barrier fits neatly at the rear of the penetration as (fig. 18). The adjacent section of barrier can now be attached to the section containing the penetrations and the top fix can be completed. The Side and Bottom fix can then be completed as normal as (fig. 19) see FireHalt Fire Barrier fitting instructions. |
